Foundational & Comprehension Skills
Teaching syllable types, syllable division strategies, and inflectional endings to promote the reading of closed, open, and r-controlled complex single syllable and multisyllabic words
Each unit begins with a read-aloud lesson designed to build background knowledge for the topic/story students will read about in the decodable text. As the lessons progress, students will develop language and text comprehension skills by using close reading routines with text-dependent questions. Other oral/language activities promote fluent reading with accuracy, proper phrasing, and reading with expression, as well as the use of English grammar and standard English conventions, academic language, and vocabulary.
