Foundational & Comprehension Skills
Preparing Students to Read Decodable Text through Sound-by-Sound Blending and Phoneme-Grapheme Mapping
Units in this section have two foci: learning letter-sound knowledge (foundational skills) and applying it into the decodable text (comprehension skills). Each unit begins with a read-aloud lesson designed to build background knowledge for the topic/story students will read about in the decodable text. As the lessons progress, students will develop oral language and reading comprehension skills as well as phonics skills, which helps them sound out the words and read with understanding.
