Teacher Analysis Prompts

As a next step, we recommend following the program scope and sequence in Phase 1 to teach letter names and sounds to your reader. 

• If your reader already knows the names and sounds of specific letters, you can skip those units as you go and focus on what your reader doesn’t know.
• If your reader knows the sounds of all of the letters but has trouble identifying what sounds they hear in the words, focus on units 18-20 to teach how to apply letter-sound knowledge in a text. 
• If your reader knows the sounds of all of the letters and identifies all sounds they hear in the words, focus on Oral Language units in Phase 1 and move on to Phase 2.
